In just a few short days DECA will be taking about 80 Oconomowoc high school students and boarding a school bus to drive out to Townsend Street school in Milwaukee, where they will be granting about 312 Christmas wishes.

Every year for the past few years, DECA, has been putting on the event called Adopt-a-School. They have put smiles on hundreds of children’s faces, making their Christmases just a little more merry by giving them a few things that they need, and a few things that they want.

Adopt-a-school is when Oconomowoc High School chooses a school in Milwaukee. OHS students are then given the option to adopt a child and buy them gifts off of their Christmas lists.

This year also differs because this is the first year that we have adopted the entire school, K3-8th grade.” Emily Kehl, an adopt-a-school officer said.

With about 312 children who needed to be adopted from the townsend school, there were about 200 OHS students that adopted at least one child. DECA successfully got all of the children from Townsend adopted this year.

With the main hallway at OHS lined with tables DECA members held an event called Wrapapalooza. During this event, members spent a sunday afternoon wrapping over 300 hundred presents for the children at Townsend.

A group of about 80 students from both DECA and a few from FBLA, will act as Santa’s elves, and deliver the gifts to each grade with Santa. They then spend lunch and recess with the children, getting to know them and having fun.

It’s a busy day, but amazing day!” said Kehl.

DECA is also preparing for competition season, with districts coming up in January, and State to follow. As well as a volleyball tournament, and annual grilling to give.

Congratulations DECA!!!
