We asked and you voted this week’s winner of the ‘Athlete of the week’ poll is Danielle Valley! Dani is a 17 year old senior who plays for the girls varsity basketball team here at OHS. Dani started playing basketball in fourth grade for the YMCA and since that time hasn’t held back her true love for the game.

Not only has Dani been a great basketball player but she has also been someone that underclassman can look up to in everyday practices and in games. “One of our captains that would be an excellent candidate for athlete of the week poll is Danielle Valley” coach Bob Shea said. Dani’s team stands at 2-3 with a tough start but the team gets closer day by day with hopes for a strong season. “I love basketball and I don’t regret joining” Dani said. If Dani had one goal for her team is would be to keep a record of 500 or better and maybe even make playoffs.

“My dad is a big role model to me, as well as all my coaches. They’ve always wanted the best for me and for me to improve” Danielle stated. Family, friends, work, sports, and school have always been Danielle’s priority.

Dani has not only been outstanding on the basketball court but also on the softball field, playing for the varsity softball team in the spring. “I don’t really have a lot of hobbies outside of sports, I love to adventure and see things around the community when Ii get a chance” Dani said.

Dani continues to get involved every year in not only school clubs like DECA, FBLA, Link, SHH, and Rho Kappa but she also serves as the Vice President of a service group through her church called the Mini Vinnies. And when Dani has any free time you can find her working. As you can tell Dani is a very busy and a well rounded individual that continues to get involved in and out of school. And although basketball does not seem to be something Dani has planned for her busy future, she has plans to go off to college and someday be able to travel the world.

Cooney Criers twitter @cooneycrierocon sent out a poll asking who the athlete of the week should be. Out of 291 votes, 36% voted for Danielle. Congrats Danielle, keep up the good work!
